St Jude’s Community Hub Cafe

St Jude’s Community Hub Cafe is a free Place of Welcome for anyone and a Warm Space.

We meet in the newly refurbished St Jude’s Church every Tuesday from 10:30-12:00, offering a warm welcome, free refreshments and free wi-fi, plus walks in the local parks to suit all abilities.

You will always find a free cup of coffee or tea, company, some good conversation or a listening ear at the Hub. We partner with Plymouth Community Homes, who can give advice on housing issues and St Luke’s Hospice, who enable us to be one of many compassionate cafés across our city. The NHS use the Hub space for Covid and flu vaccinations, and Livewell drop in from time to time to provide advice on healthy living. We are registered as a Warm Welcome Space along with other venues across the city to provide somewhere warm and welcoming with a free hot drink during the winter months.

The walks leave from the front of St Jude’s church at 10:30 to take a gentle walk around the local parks and return to the Community Hub for more conversation over a cuppa. This is all part of our links with the City’s Get Active initiative that invites people to join in walks taking place around the city at various times and places each week. See here for more information.

Community happens when people come together

A group of church volunteers have been running the Community Hub in our church hall since 2017.  Our aim is that everyone who comes to the Hub should feel they belong and are encouraged to connect with others and feel able to contribute in some way – even if that means simply by being themselves.  We are all unique and valuable as human beings in eyes of God.  Our volunteers wear a badge ‘Here to Help’ – and the most important word is ‘Here’ (being present and actively listening to people).

The St Jude’s Community Hub is a local initiative of various partners, including the Church, local NHS Surgeries, Livewell, the City Council and our local Councillors, Transforming Plymouth Together, and many others to bring connected support into local areas.
